The biggest difference between caring for genuine mukluks and any other style of traditional moccasins or sheepskin products, is that they usually have rabbit fur trim or pom poms on the outside. You may treat and care for the leather or suede as usual by spraying those portions with TANA All Protector, to add to the longevity of the mukluks and create a water resistant barrier. However, it is important to make sure that you do not spray the fur portions because it contains its own natural oils that should not be tampered with. For a more detailed look at how to protect the exterior leather or suede of your stylish mukluks, take a look at one of recent blogs that explains How To Protect Your New Leather Moccasins.

If your traditional mukluks are sheepskin or fleece lined, you can carefully wash the inside liners using a non-detergent soap such as Kookaburra Sheepskin Wash. Allow them to dry in a warm place and then condition the leather as necessary. For more information regarding cleaning and care of sheepskin see our recent blog entitled How to Properly Clean Sheepskin in 5 Easy Steps.
You should be ready to enjoy your real Canadian mukluks and now have the knowledge to properly treat the natural materials they are made of should they get soiled with daily use over time. We have a 100% safe website checkout and look forward to answering any questions you may have, via email or telephone, about our products. January 10, 2020in response to Elyse: This is a difficult question to answer without knowing what is on the fur. Can you please reach out to us via email (info@thebrownbear.ca), letting us know more details of what is in the fur and to please send pictures.

December 19, 2019I have a pair of mukluks and the on one boot the fur is all caked with something that makes it hard and separated. It needs to be cleaned but I don’t want to put soap on it unless I know I can. Both balls on the same boot are all gross and stringy and stuck together and the side of the boot the balls are on. But it’s just on the fur. I want to fix them. What should I do?

April 15, 2019My brother just sent me a pair of Mukluk black with rabbit fur — beautiful gift!
They are made of leather – not suede — how do I treat them for waterproofing?
Thanks,
odette
